A Brief Review of HPC Provided as a WEB Service by SMEs – Present Situation and Future Trends

Abstract

In the context in which high performance computing(HPC) is recognized as a key factor for economic growth anddevelopment, this article is reviewing the present state ofdelivering computing as a service by small and mediumcompanies. Example cases are briefly presented and the benefitsas well as the pitfalls of such services are highlighted. Animportant step in overcoming some of the barriers in the widerutilization of HPC was the development of dedicated WEBportalfor easy access of non-specialized users. Dedicated WEBapplications have evolved in all fields including that ofcomputational economics, which is briefly presented in thispaper.
