Quite a lot of military structures from the Paris defence system called “Camp retranché de Paris” developed during the First World War, are still preserved under the forests’ canopy in Île-de-France. In order to locate, characterize and protect those military remains (mainly trenches and gun batteries), Lidar technology has been used to scan Montmorency forest in Val d’Oise. This paper is about the methods used in this study (data treatments and recording of the topographical features) and unfolds the first results. Even if the contemporary military remains are at the core of the study, the whole archaeological features as well as the forest changes are touched on.
