Las escribanías del cabildo municipal en Jerez de la Frontera (1514-1615)

Abstract

Already in 1264, and particularly as and from the 16th century under the reign of the Austrias, the notary of the City Council played an essential role in the dynamics of municipal activity in Jerez de la Frontera, as was also the case in other cities in Castile. Through the study of documents from the City Archives in Jerez and the General Archive of Simancas, this paper offers an account of the activity of the notaries of the City Council of Jerez, of how they were organized, their number and their attributions.
