The lack of rain and the human actions put at risk the quality of water available for human supply, leaving several locations without supplies. Surface water is not sufficient to meet the population; therefore, the use of groundwater has been necessary. In this work a mapping and study of the potability of water from alternative sources in two districts located in the Zona da Mata Mineira, Sobral Pinto and Santana do Campestre were carried out, which belong to the Ubá - MG micro region. According to the data obtained, a total of 85 alternative sources were found, 24 in Sobral Pinto and 61 in Santana do Campestre. According to the data obtained, the population interviewed considers the water of the sources good for consumption and, therefore, prefer to use it to the detriment of the sanitation company water. Eight sampling points were selected for analysis, including 3 in Sobral Pinto and 5 in Santana do Campestre. The presence of coliforms was detected in two samples from Sobral Pinto and one in Santana do Campestre. The pH values determined in Santana do Campestre were below 6 for all analyzed samples. The other parameters analyzed in both Santana do Campestre and Sobral Pinto is in agreement with the legislation.
