L’histoire matérielle des moulages du musée de Sculpture comparée (1897-1927)

Abstract

During the early years of the Musée de sculpture comparée, monumental casts were regularly restored in various ways. These interventions were directly related to changes in the museography required by numerous new acquisitions This period also reflects the evolution of patinas, from their ideological rejection in 1880, until the spread of illusionist patinas from 1908. Their study helps to identify the successive vocations of the museum and the casts it displays.
