The biomedical technique of perineorraphy in Cambodia is practiced in young and healthy women in order to tighten their vagina and amplify their erotic capital by seeking to increase male sexual pleasure. This article describes the practice and its particularity in Cambodia, and shows that this technique is diverted from its medical purpose to meet a social demand. Through an eleven-month participant observation in maternity hospitals in Phnom Penh and an analysis of the discourses collected between 2013 and 2016 in Cambodia, it appears that this mutilating practice is emerging in a context of changes in the conjugal and family model where women wish to limit their husbands’use of prostitution
