Abstract

Beauty is something that everyone wants. Everything that can be seen by the human eye with love and harmony is related to beauty. Beauty is related to the heart and it is a noble feeling. The aesthetic feeling is the main feeling of all other feelings in human life. In literature, if the poet has aesthetic nature, he can write a universal poem. Beauty is not only pleasure but also human suffering can be expressed through beauty. Moreover, when at a time to mention some realities in poems, one can see the use of aesthetic strategies like simile, metaphor, symbol and imagination. In Tamil literature, figures are speech has been employed from the age past to the present to deliver an aesthetic sense. Kulothungan is one of the Tamil poets who have been known for the extraordinary usage of aesthetic sense in his poems. This article examines the Tamil poet Kulothungan's poems that speak of nature, the mind of man and political works using aesthetic techniques such as simile, metaphor, symbolism and imagination.
