Selected personality resources and relationships between them in young adults with congenital motor disability

Introduction: Congenital motor disability is for man a challenge, which can significantly modify experiencing one’s adulthood. It is necessary to deepen the knowledge about resources, which can support psychosocial adaptation of people with congenital motor disability. Self-esteem, internal locus of control and sense of coherence can be such resources. Aim of the research: The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between self-esteem, locus of control and sense of coherence in young adults with congenital motor disability. Methods of the research: The research was carried out using the method of diagnostic survey. The following research tools were used: The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES) in Polish adaptation of Łaguna, Lachowicz-Tabaczek and Dzwonkowska, Delta Questionnaire by Drwal and Antonovsky's modified Sense Of Coherence - 29 Questionnaire. Results: Significant correlations between self-esteem and internal locus of control and sense of coherenee were shown, as well as between internal locus of control and sense of coherence. Conclusions: Self-esteem, internal locus of control and sense of coherence are significantly related to each other. These resources can condition each other and contribute to reciprocal growth.
