The results of a laboratory study of the conversion of water vapor are presented when a vaporized aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride and oxygen is fed into a stationary layer of granular graphite. It is shown that the characteristic time for the conversion of water vapor upon contact of the evaporated aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride and carbon at a temperature of about 1500 K is 10 s. Comparison of the experimental results with the literature data on high-temperature interaction of water vapor and carbon showed that hydrogen fluoride has almost no effect on the rate of interaction of water vapor and carbon at a temperature of about 1500 K. A method based on the high-temperature interaction of an evaporated aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride with carbon can form the basis of an industrial technology for the dehydration of an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride, including azeotropic.
