Some Reviews Regarding the Resource Value of Campaign Ruznamçe Registers and Budgets from the Ottoman Military-Financial History Sources (Late XVI. Century and Early XVII. Century)

Abstract

One of the main reasons of the success of the Ottoman Empire in wars was the successful campaign organizations. It was necessary to carry out more than one and sometimes independent preparations to be successful in a campaign. Providing the adequate finance was one of the key requirements to conduct this organization flawlessly and properly during the campaign. The most important sources about the campaign treasure which is the most crucial requirement in Ottoman campaign organizations are campaign ruznamçes and icmals that are campaign budgets obtained by using these records. In this context this study focuses on two main points. Firstly, it aims to introduce and explain the physical specifications of campaign ruznamçes (and budgets) by comparing and contratsing them with similar sources. Secondly, this study aims to clarify the content of the campaign ruznamçes (and icmal or budgets)regarding a cer-tain campaign treasure. Eventually, in addition to the clarified content, some explanations regarding the importance these sources in terms of Ottman military-financial history will be made and thus thesource value of campaign ruznamçe registers will be indicated.
