NARRATIVE IDENTITY THROUGH A RICOEURIAN LENS
Abstract
Abstract:This paper discusses Paul Ricoeur’s conception of narrative identity centralises the pivotal role that connects story to the individual’s identity as they are interrelated. According to Ricoeur, the sense of self is constructed through experiences that are shaped in the form of narratives with happenings, incentives and actions. He initiates moral dimensions of life and components of identity, an element that he views as dynamic and extending beyond previous scholarship on this issue. The duality that Ricoeur introduces between selfhood and self-constancy suggests that the first underscores values that we are true to while the latter aligns with ethical actions that link personal motives to good life. The present paper underlies How far narrative identity is significant for Paul Ricoeur and what are its unique aspects. And to what degree does it contribute in constructing the self in a way that fills the voids of uncertainty and meaninglessness? Keywords: ethics , narrative identity , Paul Ricoeur, , self.
