This contribution aims to examine different current issues related to human mobility that pose a challenge for migration governance. This non-exhaustive list raises questions such as the limits of the figure of ‘migrant’, the protection of Human Rights (including the Right of Asylum) in migration governance, and the performative function of immigration policies. These elements, which have been profusely treated in the Javier de Lucas’ work, are key challenges to determine the quality of migration policies in current democratic societies.
