This study aims to assess mechanical properties of submerged arc welded, high-strength, line pipe steel API X70. The obtained weldment as well as the base metal were assessed for strength, ductility, hardness, toughness and weldability. Results showed that the fusion zone presented the highest hardness and the lowest impact strength due to the as-deposited microstructure. In addition, the ultimate tensile strength of the weldment (UTSw) overmatched the tensile strength of base metal (UTS). The second part of this paper deals with statistical analysis of experimental data using correlation and simple linear regression. Results showed that the yield strength (YS) can effectively be used to estimate the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and the yield to tensile ratio (YTR) of base metal with coefficients of determination R2 around 80 and 65%, respectively. In addition, (UTSw) can also be predicted based on (UTS) values with a coefficient of determination R2 about 60%. Predicted values are in good agreement with experimental data. The proposed models can be readily used in practice.
