City and Industry: Spatial Interactions in the Médio Vale do Paraíba in a Scenario of Transition
Abstract
With urban restructuring linked to new industries the Middle Paraíba Valley region has assumed an important role in the urban network of Brazil. This work treats the particularity of the relationship between the presence of medium-sized cities and manufacturing in the region, especially in Resende, highlighting the decisive influence of the diversification of production and consumption and scales of interurban relations. The article is divided into three parts: 1) industrial concentration in the Middle Paraíba Valley, 2) new consumption spaces and 3) the urban crisis.
