Yeniden Yapılandırma Döneminde Türk Bankacılık Sektöründe Verimlilik Değişimi(Productivity Changes in Turkish Banking Sector During the Restructuring Period)

Abstract

The Turkish banking sector has gone through a massive restructuring process during the period of 2001-2005. The overall objective of this study is to evaluate the productivity performance of banking sector during the restructuring program. To measure the total factor productivity, Malmquist index is used. The main finding of the study is that there is a productivity gain in 2001-2005 period, which was mainly attributable to technical progress rather than efficiency increases.
