Head injury: cognitive dysfunction
Abstract
A descriptive study was conducted in order to identify cognitive impairments in patients with head injuries and damage to the frontal lobes, features that appear more frequently as a consequence of these impairments. The sample was formed by 17 cases which were purposively selected. They were treated at the Neurosurgical Department of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Provincial University Hospital in Santa Clara during the period from January to December 2010. The results of this research confirm other studies showing changes in the capacity of attention, anterograde memory and mood swings, as well as planning and development of programs focused on the establishment of adequate cognitive functioning and on the behavioral, social and family adjustment.
