The goal of the work. Processing and bringing into scientific circulation part of the unpublished correspondence of the Ukrainian ethnographer, dialectologist and local historian Vasyl Kravchenko to the Ukrainian lexicographer, ethnographer and writer Borys Hrinchenko, which are stored in the Institute of Manuscript of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and are a particularly valuable source for studying the history of Podillia of the 19th century. The use of previously unknown information for a deeper understanding of the life realities of various representatives of the rural population of Podillia. Methodology. In the process of conducting the research, the method of scientific heuristics, biographical, historical-logical, critical methods of studying historical sources and an anthropological approach were used, which in the complex makes it possible to illuminate the everyday life of an average Ukrainian peasant at the end of the 19th century. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the correspondence of two outstanding Ukrainian figures of science and culture, Vasyl Kravchenko and Borys Hrinchenko, was introduced into scientific circulation, which provide unique information about the life of peasants in the border areas of Podillia at the end of the 19th century. Conclusions. Since the subject of the history of everyday life is the private life of ordinary people, the conditions of work, rest, and everyday problems, and the sources are both written and oral materials, the unpublished letters of Vasyl Kravchenko to Borys Hrinchenko can be considered as a source for studying the Ukrainian village of the border regions at the end of the 19th century. Thanks to the skillful and detailed description of episodes from the lives of ordinary people, we have received unique information recorded by a contemporary on paper, which will actually be useful for understanding the standard of living and moral foundations of the society at that time and for a deeper reproduction of the historical era.
