Careers of Professors and Administrative Technician in Education in the Federal Institutions of Education: A Comparative Perspective

This work aims to analyze the similarity and differences between the careers of professors and administrative technician in education (ATE) of Federal Institutions of Education. It is a descriptive research of a qualitative approach, and bibliographic and documentary type. The analysis based on current legislation, including normative provisions at the national level on people management applicable to these institutions, presenting the organization of work, the management of development, and the management of career compensation. In the systematization of the results, it was observed that the main divergences between both studied careers were the minimum requirement, weekly working hours, frequency control, flexibility to change the working hours, vacations, hiring substitute, entry requirements, career development, minimum interstitial for progression, time span, and possibility to leave for stricto sensu post-graduate during the probationary internship. The main contribution of the study is to present the particularities of the careers in these institutions, allowing a reflection on the challenges of the people management area in the implementation of human resources management policies and practices to keep the employees motivated and committed with the organization, despite the divergences presented in the legislation on the analyzed careers.
