CATADORES E CARRINHEIROS: estratégias de sobrevivência em face das Políticas de Planejamento Urbano
Abstract
Nowadays the cities are being designed to meet the demands of the global market. They are considered wealth production machines and therefore lead politicians to fight for financial resources and to make them meet the market´s appeal. Policies urban oriented competitiveness criteria and “sustainability” value certain spaces in detriment of others, forcing the population that cannot pay for offset benefits outside of this model. In Curitiba, urban planning has been effective considering the implementation of urban policies, so as to keep “poverty” away. It isolated urban spaces and promoted prejudice urban occupation. This article aims to reflect bout the contradictions and conflicts in the city of Curitiba expansion process considering the strategies used by a community of collectors of recyclable material to build and stay in the place where they live – an area of environmental preservation.
