La sélection des sites de décharge en Région wallonne

Abstract

Landfill site selection in the Walloon Region (Belgium). The systematic approach for landfill site selection, adopted by the Walloon government, is presented, which is planned for the next 20 years. The strategy concerns municipal as well as industrial wastes, inert wastes or even sludges from the clearing and dredging of waterways. Out of the 331 proposals examined, 57 sites were finally selected. This choice is based on technical and socio-economical criteria. Now, these 57 sites are examined in detail and are submitted to a public inquiry. After this procedure, the Walloon government will decide probably at early 1999 - the final selection of landfill sites.
