CSR in the Polish hard coal mining industry in the context of decarbonisation
Abstract
Objectives The article undertakes an analysis of the activities related to the implementation of sustainable development assumptions in Polish hard coal mining companies, primarily in relation to environmental and social activities to be taken beyond the closure stage. Material and methods Case studies analysing the information that Polish hard coal mining companies make publicly available. Results In most cases, Polish mining companies do not make public intended actions to take after the closure of mines. Only two out of the six analysed entities declare plans related to this. Conclusions The complete cessation of coal mining will not take place until after 2050. Therefore, it is difficult to expect an indication of the detailed solutions that will be introduced at that time, which results from both the volatility of the economic and technological environment. However, some of the analysed companies were not subject to the obligation to prepare and make available to the public non-financial reports.
