In this study, after an extensive research of the general characteristics, hiring and retention strategies of generation Y nurses, a collection has been prepared in order for executive nurses to enhance the employee retention as far as generation Y nurses are concerned. Within the scope of the literature review, first and foremost, the characteristics of all generations, the hiring process of human resources and the hiring and retention strategies of generation Y nurses have been investigated. The research conducted on generation Y nurses emphasizes the importance of fair wages, fair work environment and fair work hours. As a consequence, managerial information on personnel selection, training, development, orientation and motivation has been provided for the nursing services administrators with the aim of retaining generation Y nurses. Fining, hiring and efficiently retaining the skilled nurses positively affect institutions in terms of time, cost and reputation. In this way, nurses aim to meet the expectations by creating a successful work environment. In short, it is rather significant for both institutions and executive nurses to employ clear and unambiguous strategies and create a work environment accordingly to meet the expectations of generation Y nurses.
