Conformity of Hospital Information Systems to ISO Standard 9241/ 110 in Hospitals Affiliated to Bushehr University of Medical Sciences: the Users, Point of View
Abstract
Background: Extensive use of hospital information systems mandate their assessment. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in hospitals affiliated to Bushehr University of Medical Sciences from May 2018 to February 2019. Data were collected using ISO 9241/110 standard questionnaire. This self-administered questionnaire was distributed among 568 software users in the university hospitals. The questionnaire has 75 items set in seven general domains. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18 Chicago: SPSS Inc. Scores between different groups were compared using independent sample t-test and ANOVA. Results: Two domains, suitability for task (3.23±0.6) and learnability (3.20±0.44), had the highest score and the domain of controllability (2.97±0.74) had the lowest score. Comparison of total score among three software companies A (3.13±0.45), B (3.03±0.45) and C (3.75±0.42) and also the scores of seven domains showed that Company C with the highest total mean score and mean scores in all domains had the highest compliance with the ISO standard 9241/110. The mean score of nursing staff in all domains was lower than other clinical users. Also, in comparison to other hospitals, the mean score of Bushehr hospitals staff was lower in all domains except the controllability domain. Conclusion: It is recommended to use Company C’s software for other hospitals due to its greater user compliance, or to upgrade Company A’s software. Software designers are required to pay more attention to controllability and self-descriptiveness domains.
