Protecting the natural environment in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law
Abstract
States are generally required, during armed conflicts, to use destructive weapons only in accordance with international conventions, respect for the rules of international war set out in the Hague and Geneva Conventions, and standards of international law. war, and to determine the effectiveness of the applicable legal rules in times of armed conflict protecting the environment in international humanitarian law, it is necessary to analyze the most relevant international conventions. Since the creation of humanitarian law, it has focused on the protection of civilians and the organization of methods and means of warfare, without concern for the protection of the environment because it was a concept new, but this did not preclude the existence of provisions protecting the environment in an indirect way. And its consequences for the human race and to reduce the damage to the natural resources necessary for human life, which are no less dangerous and harmful to the human damages themselves, they formed the nucleus of the emergence of the rules of international law of the environment, which have begun to occupy a prominent place in recent decades, Protecting people in times of war and minimizing the risks they may have during war and international crises.
