At a time when the veneration of images became one of the official elements of the Catholic faith from 1563 onwards and a wave of iconoclasts swept across Europe, to what extent did the Morisco revolt in the kingdom of Granada use it as a weapon to refuse forced conversions and reject the power of the Catholic King? More generally,the visual culture that lies at the heart of the conflict between the two monotheistic religions is one that permeates religious identities and underlines armed affiliations.
