A new book on the history of Kazan province: the man in the revolution of 1917

The article provides a brief overview the second volume of the multi-authored monograph The Man in the Revolution: Kazan guberniya, which is dedicated to the revolution of 1917 in Russia. The research was conducted in 2016–2017 and was inspired by 100 years of the Great Russian Revolution. The second volume is a logical continuation of the first volume. As well as in the first volume, which focused on the Kazan Governorate as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional region of the Russian Empire. and also on administrative and industrial resources of the Volga Region. It was the center of the huge Kazan Military District and the Kazan educational district. Kazan University was the center of the city’s liberal forces. The historical and anthropological study of the revolution era is analyzed through the motives and needs, power symbols, behaviors of various social, professional, gender, ethnic, and religious groups. Also the study contains a chapter on the problems of the First World War and the life in the rear of special social categories: prisoners of war, refugees, and internees.
