Историческое описание сдвигов в функционировании беспредложного винительного падежа в русском языке

Abstract

Within the case of Russian the accusative case occupies a special position. It is used in nocnection with verbs only. Its basic function is to express the direct object of transitive verbs of the predicative. The accusative form of the direct object has its origins in Indo-European. Later, Proto-Slavic and individual Slavic languages inherited this construction from Indo-European. As a result, it occurs also in the East Slavic languages. Exploring the language material from old and contemporary Russian, it is then possible to demonstrate specific features of the operation of accusative as direct object in the course of historical development.
