This article analyses the adherence of Brazilian political parties to the liberal environmentalist discourse, understood as the one that seeks to reconcile capitalism with ecological sustainability. The methodology of the study consisted of the examination of political agendas. It was evidenced that from the 35 parties registered in the Electoral Justice system, 22 incorporate ecological problematics in their agendas, which account to the 62.5%. Out of that number, 13 can be categorized as liberal environmentalists. In spite of defending capitalist principles of free market, all of the liberal environmentalist parties consider the State as the main agent in the formulation of environmental policy. The theoretical framework of this study gathers contributions of the sociology of political parties and environmental sociology.
