Présence du désastre d’Asie Mineure dans L’Institutrice aux yeux d’or de Stratis Myrivilis
Abstract
Abstract: The Teacher with the Golden Eyes is one of the three “novels” that Stratis Myrivilis drew from his military experience of the Balkan Wars and the First World War. It is a love story, even if in the form of haunting memories, stories within the story or dreams, certain atrocious episodes of the ordeal of the Greeks in Asia Minor, like a flash series, appear there. It is the difficult return of a veteran to the world of peace, his reunion with life, youth and love, but it is not easy to pretend that the war did not take place. In fact, war is present everywhere in the form of indelible, haunting traces in the souls of veterans, the deaths of successive wars weigh on their memories, imprison them and prevent them from living. The dead and the living must be plunged into the river of oblivion to find life again.
