The current essay is focused on the analysis of the role played by Italy during one of the most fractioning moment of the Cold War: the Cuban missile crisis. The choice of this topic derives from the willingness to examine a particularly studied period of the contemporary history, that is the tension of October 1962, in the light of the Italian action during the crisis (this latter relatively less studied). The aim of the work is to demonstrate from one side the strong effort made by Rome to promote a pacific solution of the dispute, from the other side the deep influence that the Cuban events and, in general, the increase of the Soviet-American tensions had on the Italian political dynamics.
