Abstract

The article attempts to present the entanglement of niche music in the digital distribution of sound. The 21st century was supposed to be the age of niches – in accordance with the concept of a “long tail”. How does niche music function in a situation of universal access, omnivorousness and culture of excess? Does the listener appreciate the possibility of using a huge musical base or does the lost listener try to use the indications of the algorithm; what are his preferences; is he listening to selected music (genre, performer)? Or perhaps, music is for him an uninterrupted stream of sound, treated in an incredibly functional way.
