INTRODUCTION: To evaluate the effect of the leg and back pain due to lomber disc hernia on the anxiety and depression in adults. METHODS: 60 male and 60 female patients who were diagnosed for low back pain due to lomber disc hernia admitted to algology clinic were included in this study (group 1). 30 male and 30 female healthy patients (without low backpain) were included as control group (group 2). To compare the anxiety and depression level between two groups, Beck depression scale (BDS) and Beck anxiety scale (BAS) were used. A p level of <0.05was statistically significant and Student t test was used to compare groups. RESULTS: BDS test was 9,10+-6,93 in group 2 male patients and 18,37+-9,40 in group 1 male patients (p<0.05). BAS test was 9,00+-6,29 in group 2 male patients and 16,92+-7,96 in group 1 male patients (p<0.05). BDS and BAS tests was significantly higher in group 2 female patients than group 1 female patients (p<0.05). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: We found that there was higher anxiety and depression level in patients with low back and leg pain due to lomber disc hernia.
