Abstract
This study is a comparative study of an evaluation system between concept mapping essay test and multiple choice test on students' achievement in science. The study was carried out at primary schools in Cianjur. A sample of 100 students was taken by stratified random sampling method. This sample was then divided into two groups consisting of 50 students each. A two-way Anova and Tukey methods were used to test hypotheses. The result of the study revealed that concept mapping essay test resulted in a higher students science achievement than multiple choice test. For students with high verbal reasoning, implementation of concept mapping essay test resulted in a higher students achievement in science compared to those applying the multiple choice test. For students with low verbal reasoning, the implementation of concept mapping essay test did not exert a significant difference in their achievement compared to the group of multiple choice test
