Factors Influencing the Quality of Educational Performance of Faculty Members: A Qualitative Study

Background and Objectives: Quality of educational performance of faculty members is a multidimensional concept, which is affected by various factors. The purpose of the present study was to determine the factors influencing the quality of educational performance of the faculty members. Methods: This research qualitative is a descriptive exploratory study, which its data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed based on thematic analysis. The statistical population of the study consisted of faculty members of Yasuj University of Medical Sciences, among whom, 18 were selected using purposive sampling. Initially, two general questions were asked about the educational performance for beginning the interview and then, the interview process was guided based on the participants' responses. The Interviews were performed in the participants' workplaces and each interview lasted between 1.5 and 2 hours on average. Interviews continued until achieving theoretical saturation. Results: In this study, firstly, 34 basic themes were extracted and then reduced to 10 organizer themes based on the similarity of the composite and summary content. Organizing themes were divided into five domains, including (inclusive themes) of human factors, professional factors, structural factors, technology, cultural, and social factors, and the qualitative model of these factors was designed. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that several factors affect the quality of educational performance of the faculty members, which needs to be taken into consideration by policy makers in order to improve the educational quality.
