The social and identity representations of a country or a people can be determined through certain major factors, but the discourses seem to be a key factor (Gumperz 1982, Benwell and Stokoe 2006, Gréco et al. 2014). In view of the current situation in the Middle East, the statements made by political leaders on the international scene highlight the complexity of the conflict in Syria struggling with multiple points of view. However, these expressions are discursively developed through several paradoxes, recorded in the variations of angles under which the circulating discourses are discussed, notably media and institutional (see Charaudeau 2005). Our work will be devoted to questioning this reality in terms of the discursive representations of the refugees themselves, in contrast withtheir reflection in the media, and this in the context of an anthropological and materialistic linguistics as proposed by the praxematics (Détrie et al. 2017 [2001]), by way of a corpus composed of Syrian refugees’ life stories.
