Background: the state exit exams are the certification of the competence of the graduates. Analyzing the results obtained in this type of assessment is useful to detect deficiencies in the teaching-learning process. Objective: to describe, making a comparison, the results of the state exit examinations of the medical degree at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas, during the 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years. Methods: a retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out in the medical degree of the aforementioned university and during the years herein declared. The study population consisted of 1738 students who presented to the state exit exam in the ordinary examination session. The grades obtained in the practical and theoretical exams and the quality of the results were analyzed. The data were processed according to descriptive statistics. Results: the best results in the five-year period, with a predominance of over 90 points, were obtained in the practical exams. In the theoretical exams, grades of 80 to 89 in the last four years predominated; in the 2018-2019 academic year, all the students passed this type of exam. Regarding quality, the best results were obtained in the 2018-2019 academic year, with grades between 80 and 100 points for 94,9 % of the students, although the previous two academic years were equally very good. Conclusions: the gradual improvement in the quality of the results is perceptible at the state examination in the five-year period, especially in the last three academic years.
