Ideas of the United Ukraine in the Creative Heritage of the OUN Ideologist Osyp Boidunyk
Abstract
The article covers issues of the national liberation struggle led by the Kuban Ukrainians in 1917–1920, and their relations with the Ukrainian state authorities of the period. The research is based on the work of the prominent Ukrainian public and political figure, publicist, and ideologist of the nationalist movement Osyp Boidunyk “The Unification of Ukraine and Its Eastern Borders”, published in 1930 in the journal “The Development of the Nation” and reprinted in Ukraine in 2014. It is emphasized that this work of O. Boidunyk and his entire creative heritage still remain insufficiently known not only to the general Ukrainian public but also to the scientific community. The Ukrainian historiography has scantily explored his oeuvre. The focus is put on the topicality of O. Boidunyk’s works for the establishment of the united Ukraine and the priority of this idea for all generations of Ukrainians. It is especially important in the context of the modern “hybrid” warfare conducted by Putin’s Russia against Ukraine and the efforts of the “Russian World” supporters geared to disassemble it. Much attention is paid to O. Boidunyk’s life path and the importance of his creative heritage for preserving the historical memory of the Ukrainian people, especially our ethnic Ukrainians, who, due to historical circumstances, found themselves outside the modern Ukrainian state, namely in the Kuban. Also, emphasis is laid on the development of national, cultural, and educational life of the Kuban Ukrainians after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the restoration of Ukraine’s independence in 1991, as well as counteraction to these processes by the Russian chauvinist circles.
