"Survival in the spoken word and in text - Basic concepts of Jewish thought and writing as signposts towards the search for an identity". In my arguments in relation to the question, whereby the Jewish identity is essentially characterized, I draw equally on historical, cultural and religious sources. My reflections commence with the accounts of the Creation as they are reported in Genesis 1 and 2, in order to make a fitting assessment of the powers of the beginning which made possible the formation of the world and living beings. Not only the creative but also the destructive energies in “Jahwe Elohim” manifest themselves in seemingly contrary behaviour which is, for humankind, incomprehensible: In order to demonstrate this, it was necessary tto make an appeal to the book of Job. Finally I discuss Vilem Flussers ways of thinking with respect to the plurality of Jewish traditions and belief in their many-sided facets.
