Geological pecualiarities and perspectives for Cu-Mo porphyric mineralization in the Sierra Maestra
Abstract
Since the middle of the 20th century, the evidence of porphyritic Cu-Mo mineralization occurrence has been known in the Sierra Maestra (Cuba). Despite large outcrops have been described, as well as the presence of an intense hydrothermal alteration and the mineralization of veins with associated precious metals, these manifestations have not been fully evaluated due to their low Cu content. In order to clarify the characteristics of this kind of mineralization and evaluating its perspectives, the available information in geological reports was reviewed and systematized, and geochemical and geophysical criteria were applied. As a result were characterized and delimited six new areas with perspectives to develop prospecting work for porphyritic copper and two previously reported were incorporated.
