Bariatric surgery: indication and importance of a multidisciplinary approach

Abstract

There is a consensus about surgical indications on morbidobesity upon two topics: 1 - BMI equal or greater than 40; 2 -BMI equal or greather than 35 in the presence of importantcomorbities. It is important to avoid surgical treatment inchildren and in the youth and in the presence of endocrine diseasesuch as Cushing syndrome, liver cirrhosis, other incapacitatingdiseases or age over 70 years old. Its also recommended to useinformed consent in all surgical indication.
