Reading interests of a modern librarian in the mirror of sociological studies

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyse the results of sociological studies of librarians' leisure and professional reading conducted in Ukraine in recent years. Research methodology. The achievement of the set goal was carried out by applying theoretical methods (document analysis, synthesis) and empirical methods (description), whichmakes it possible to identify and generalize advance ments in the study of reading interests of modern librarians in Ukraine. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the analysis of the results of sociological studies of the reading interests of the modern librarian, which were conducted in Ukraine in recent years. Conclusions. The results of sociological research on the reading habits of librarians in Ukraine have been analysed. Through sociological and scientific-practical surveys conducted in Ukrainian libraries of different levels, a modern image of the librarian as a reader has been formed, and their reading interests, both professional and leisure, have been identified. Professional reading has been considered as an integral part of the librarian's professional development and their need for professional literature. The level of reading popularity among librarians and the influence of personal reading on their professional competence have been determined. As a result, the range of reading interests of contemporary librarians and their professional qualities have been established. The importance of further enhancement of the reading competence of library workers in Ukraine as promoters of books isemphasized.
