The role of mass communication in environmental protection for sustainable development

Abstract

Sustainable development is a concept widely used in Vietnam and in the world. The connotation of this concept emphasizes environmental factors besides economic and social factors. The sustainability of any society is considered as an issue in which a country find a way to reconcile among the three pillars of the development process. Regarding environmental protection, mass communication plays an important role as an institution in modern society to perform the function of information, monitoring and public debation to the phenomena related to environmental pollution. Moreover through the communication, people, the subjects of any society will raise their awareness of their participation in environmental protection to achieve sustainable development objectives.
