TYPES OF REFERENCE TO REALITY IN THE SYSTEM OF LEXICAL UNITS

Abstract

The article examines the act by which the reference of the lexical units is constructed and is manifested in communication, functioning as constitutive elements of the utterance. The purpose of the article is to present a description of the referring mechanism, with particular emphasis on the relationship between the meaning of lexical units and their reference. Special attention is paid to the diversity of semantic-pragmatic factors involved in the referring act. The article describes the main types of referential acts specific to lexical units used in certain syntactic functions: semantic, syntactic and pragmatic reference. These three ways of semantic-referential interpretation correspond to three types of lexical units of language: common nouns, anaphoric terms and deictic elements.
