Ivan Bunin’s Nobel Speech: The History and Studies of the Text
Abstract
The article examines all the variants of Ivan Bunin’s Nobel Speech in French and Russian that have been identified so far, created by both the writer and third parties in 1933–1950, while only authorized typewriting in French (1933). The author’s publications as part of the memoir essays “Recordings” (1936) are recognized as sources of its text, “Comment j’ai reçu le Prix Nobel” (How I Received the Nobel Prize, 1947), “Nobel Days” (1950), “Journées du Prix Nobel” (Nobel Prize Days, 1950). According to the authors of the article, the authorized typescript can be used as the main text in preparing the Nobel Speech for publication in the future Bunin’s Complete Works and letters separately from the listed essays, i. e., as an independent work. The article uses the principles of historicism and comparative analysis as research methods.
