The article looks at the topical issues of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language in the context of learning a foreign language for specific purposes by the students specializing in international relations. The subject of the research is the specifics of the linguistic nomination in forming the terminology of international relations as a component of the comprehensive terminology corps of “social and political relations”. The author describes extra-linguistic factors which have influenced the development of the terminology of international relations and the ways of forming the innovative vocabulary in this sphere. Structural and semantic features of these lexical units can be divided into several groups depending on the lexical set and the way of formation. The results of the research have been used in the methods of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to students majoring in international relations in the closely related linguistic environment.
