The “frame analysis”, by offering conceptual tools that explain the processes of creation of shared cultural discourses indispensable to collective action, seems particularly useful in understanding the characteristics and the success of the intense social mobilisation experienced by Bolivia in the 2000-2005 period and led by MAS and his allied social movements. In this article, we identify three frames of reference: the injustice frame, the sovereignty frame and the anti-system frame. Articulated by a master frame centred on the revalorization of the category of “the indian”, they are the basis of a semantic revolution that challenges the traditional economic, political and cultural structures of the State.
