Abstract In order to support medical students throughout their training, we implemented the Model of Support, which is organized into five components: (1) academic, (2) learning issues, (3) social, (4) financial, and (5) mentoring/advising. These five components and their associated subcomponents are the essential elements that are required to support medical students throughout their training. This resource outlines each of the five components with a case study for each and includes implementation instructions for each of the sub-components. The target learner would be faculty or administrators in student affairs. Graduates from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign have not only benefited from the curricular content of the college, but also the student support mechanisms that assisted them from the point of their matriculation until graduation.
