Surgical approach to an adrenocortical carcinoma with right atrial extension in a nine-year old male: Our experience
Abstract
Adrenocortical carcinoma with intracaval and intra atrial extension is an extremely rare occurrence in the pediatric population. We report the case of a nine‐year‐old male who presented to our outpatient department with facial swelling, weight gain, and premature pubarche. A right adrenocortical mass was discovered on computed tomography (CT) with extension up till the right atrium, indicated intracaval and intra atrial tumor extension. An exploratory laparotomy with median sternotomy and excision of supra renal mass along with excision of IVC thrombus and right atrial thrombus was performed. Final histopathology report confirmed the diagnosis of high‐grade adrenocortical carcinoma.
