The basic approaches to the definition of methodological competence have been analyzed. It has been found that there is no unanimity among scholars in determining the structure of methodological competence. It is due to different views on the essence of this concept. The definition of the interpreter trainer methodological competence has been offered. The components of this competence have been distinguished. The interpreter trainer methodological competence is considered to be an integral quality of a trainer’s personality. It determines his/her willingness and ability to solve methodological problems effectively in the process of achieving the objectives of interpreters’ training and to develop skills throughout life. This quality is a dynamic combination of such components as 1) cognitive and operational, 2) motivational and volitional, 3) reflexive and evaluative, 4) social and communicative. It is formed in the process of educational and professional activities. The cognitive and operational component includes methodological knowledge, skills, subskills and abilities that refer to the following subcompetences 1) in teaching consecutive interpreting, 2) in teaching simultaneous interpreting. Each of these subcompetences consists of educational and research competencies. The motivational and volitional, reflexive and evaluative, social and communicative components encompass psychological qualities, skills and abilities of a trainer. All the constituents of the interpreter trainer methodological competence, being integrated and interrelated, determine the lifelong professional development of an interpreter trainer. The concept for further studies has been substantiated. The content of each constituent of the interpreter trainer methodological competence must be determined.
