Two Decades with Sectoral Innovation Systems: The Traveled Path and The Horizons Ahead
Abstract
The concept of sectoral innovation systems is rooted in studies that have been published about three decades ago. But, this concept was introduced seriously around two decades ago and after that, it has been increasingly employed in a diverse range of industries within developed and developing countries. However, it has not conducted and systematic review of sectoral innovation systems literature. So, current paper has conducted a systematic review of sectoral innovation systems body of knowledge through studying 76 selected papers in this field. To this end, this paper presented some descriptive statistics about selected paper beside review of definitions, concepts, characteristics, and components of sectoral innovation systems. In addition, this paper classified selected paper based on the level of development of studied countries. Furthermore, this paper proposes a thematic classification of previous studies that includes concepts such as technological catch-up, windows of opportunity, capital goods, and complex product systems, and the transition to market leadership in emerging economies.
